The Adam Dershowitz case was one of the most significant disciplinary cases in recent MIT history. MIT passed a policy making it an offense to show "pornographic", or any sexually explicit movies which were not pre-approved by a committee. Adam Dershowitz challenged this policy. Though much-criticized, he managed an amazing feat - he won an acquittal from MIT disciplinary charges. MIT refused to change the policy, despite this ruling, he again challenged the policy. This time he offered to not show the film if the associate provost would admit that the policy did not apply. Despite the prior ruling this was turned down. This time he was not given a hearing but was instead unjustly punished by an administrator
Eventually, a revised "Porn Policy" was discussed and adopted, though it was not much of an improvement.
Here's a short summary in Adam Dershowitz's own words.
