what is JSA?
JSA stands for Jewish Student Activism. We are an ASA-recognized student group with a progressive Jewish outlook. We work to promote cultural, political, and religious awareness from a distinctly Jewish perspective. We are always looking to support cutting-edge projects in activism. To get involved, drop us a line at jsa@mit.edu
why give away matzahs?
There are practical answers and philosophical ones. Simply put, Passover falls right during the crunch leading up to finals. We want make it as easy as possible for Jews and their friends on campus to commemorate the holiday. On a deeper level, matzah is referred to as lechem oni - the bread of the poor - because the middle matzah during the seder is broken. Just as the poor must eat bread which is less than whole, we demonstrate that our work towards healing the world is not complete.
