Installation instructions for Dr Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit First, you should ensure that you have a clean, virus free system prior to downloading the software. To do that, power off your system (some viruses survive a warm boot) and insert a clean, write protected floppy in A drive. [It should have the same version of DOS that you are currently running]. Power on the PC. At the A:\ prompt, remove the boot floppy and insert either a Toolkit DOS disk containing FINDVIRU.EXE (on the second DOS diskette) and type FINDVIR /LOCAL or another current anti-virus scanner such as fprot version 2.22 or later. If a virus is reported, do not continue the install until the system has been cleaned. Recommended instructions for all platforms: The software for all platforms, except Novell [see note], is available for download from the Information Security Office Web page or from net-dist, in /pub/anti-virus/. The files are in separate folders for each operating environment. The disks are labeled using the convention: drs. [NOTE:] You will need to download the two DOS disks as well as the ones for your operating environment for the installation. The folders contain self-extracting files which, when extracted by executing the file, will expand to a copy of the original installation disk provided by Dr Solomon. Download each file (drs__1, drs__2 and drs__3 - as appropriate for the platform) to temporary directories on your system and expand them. Due to the size of the files, we recommend you then copy each of the expanded disks to floppy disks. This will permit you to install the software on other systems in your office and to bring home to install on other systems that you administer. [Novell software is available from the Information Security Office - call Jerry Isaacson at x3-1440 or send e-mail to gii@mit.edu] Platform specific instructions: Windows: 1.
