hey guys here's a BRIEF summary of the meeting today:

present: jumaane, yuki, lei, kimberly, kristian (name?), kaz, rishi, me

I. clarification of pangaea's goals

*ultimate goal of pangaea: promote multicultural awareness and cross-cultural
exchange around campus -- BUILDING BRIDGES AND BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS
between diff. culture groups, social cirles, etc.

*immediate goal for spring term: use creative publicity to PROVOKE thought
about issues related to multiculturalism (i.e. segregation, world events,
prejudices, ethnocentrism) -- get people thinking so that they will have
invested interest in future pangaea or other cultural events.


II. focus for spring term

(a) CENTRAL NEWSLETTER (or section of the tech): a weekly or biweekly 
we can produce on paper and online, which (1) compiles a thorough schedule
of all the different culture group meetings/events going on that week (at mit
and possibly at other local universities), and (2) provokes thought/interest 
in cultural issues via articles written by various people, highlighting 
different cultures, and concerning perhaps controversial topics (e.g. 
infiltrating the asian mafia).
--->also, highlight potentially awesome events, such as dramashop's 
"immigration project", mit's production of "vagina monologues", and the
international fair

(b) LOTS OF PUBLICITY!!!--creative and striking ways to stir interest 
around campus and get people talking (ultimately so that they will read our
newsletter and actually want to attend the events on the schedule)
-human displays like the 'ethnographic museum of irrelevant races'
-comic strips
-posters
-chalking

(c) MOVIE NIGHTS
-european film festival: 2/13, 2/27, 3/13 (biweekly weds. nights)
-provocative hollywood movies: biweekly saturday afternoons maybe in april
and may (plus dinner and discussion)

III. IMPORTANT MEETING TO PLAN 1st PUBLICITY DISPLAY: MON. 1/28 7pm LOBDELL
*goal: lay out detailed outline of at least one display to be presented
on reg day--2/4/02 (monday)--delegate tasks, shifts, whatever is necessary
*invite anyone interested and talented in layout, arts, acting, writing, 
whatever!!!
