HESIOD DISTRIBUTION INFORMATION 18 October 1993 Welcome to Hesiod, the Project Athena nameserver. Hesiod can provide general name service for a variety of applications and is based on the Berkeley Internet Name Daemon (BIND). This is version 1.3 of the Hesiod distribution. Instructions for building the hesiod library and test program are in src/Build. We have gotten the hesiod library and hesinfo to build on the following platforms: DECStation running Ultrix 4.2A or 4.3 VAXstation running BSD 4.3 (with local modifications) SPARCclassic running Solaris RS6000 running AIX 3.2 This distribution currently does not include application code, except for a simple test program. Although the included Imakefile is used for building hesiod in our environment, the Makefile was used for all of the testing done in creating this distribution. You will probably want to use the latter. A discussion of Hesiod takes place on the mailing list "hesiod@mit.edu." To join, please send mail to "hesiod-request@mit.edu." Please send any bug reports or suggested changes to the mailing list. Some of the configuration files and documents refer to other software packages developed at Project Athena. For more information about them, send mail to "info-athena@mit.edu." Hesiod is a registered trademark of MIT.
