This directory contains sample Hesiod configuration files. These are specific to the Project Athena applications of Hesiod, but give the "flavor" of the configuration. The configuration required by BIND 4.8 is somewhat unusual. Because 4.8 does not support the notion of priming the in-core cache of the name daemon, each Hesiod client claims to be authoritative for Hesiod queries in the domain ATHENA.MIT.EDU, and delegates NS.ATHENA.MIT.EDU to the actual Hesiod servers. This configuration is reflected in the files named.boot.client and named.mit here. This set of files make up a sample hesiod database. "athena.db", "hesiod.db", and "named.boot" are hand-crafted, the rest are automatically generated by Moira, our service management system. If you have an existing named.boot, the only necessary change is to add the line referring to athena.db, and the rest of the Hesiod database will be pulled in from that. athena.db - includes the rest of the database cluster.db - workstation clustering information filsys.db - lockers for attach client program gdb.db - GDB database locations gid.db - Group ID to group translations group.db - /etc/group entries grplist - A user's list of groups hesiod.db - lists authoratative hesiod servers passwd.db - /etc/passwd entries pobox.db - POP pobox locations printcap.db - /etc/printcap entries service.db - /etc/service info sloc.db - location of various services uid.db - User ID to passwd translations -Mark Rosenstein 22 May 1990
