Project Database -- Project Notebook

What is The Project Database

Originally conceived as a clearing house for possible Discovery Projects to be considered by Information Systems, The Project Database has explored many areas related to housing and disseminating information about projects from various to various customers.

It's current incarnation (as of this update 16 February 1999) is focused as follows:

  • The Project Database is a communication tool to house information about projects.
  • The projects primarily are MIT IS projects.
  • The information is primarily provided by project team leaders, and project team members.
  • The information is consumed by IS directors, interested IS employees, and interested parties outside IS.

A lower priority focus is to act as a tool in helping to manage projects.

This focus has definitely changed over time, and is expected to continue to change as the Project Database Evolves.

Statement of Purpose

The Projects Database was created to provide:
  • Visibility. Improved overall access to information about I/T activities for staff and the MIT community in general.
  • Recruiting opportunities. Make I/T staff aware of project opportunities.
  • Reporting mechanisms. Simplify status and quarterly reporting.
  • Research tools. Assist users with finding contacts and related data for a project.
  • Management tools. Provide rudimentary project management tools for smaller projects.

Project Database Materials

Historical Project Materials

There is a lot of historical material sitting in the project-db locker. Someone needs to organize it a bit and point to it from here.
