WebEQ has been tested under Solaris and Redhat Linux, and we have had
reports from customers who have successfully installed WebEQ under a
number of other Unix flavors. A couple of points to note:
- You will need to get and
install Java on your system, if you don't already have it.
If you are running Solaris, the simplest thing to do is to
select the WebEQ installer which also contains the Java runtime
environment. For other Unix platforms, notably Linux, you will
have to install Java yourself. Consult Yahoo's list of
3rd
party ports of the Java Development Kit (JDK). Some of
these are free, and others are commercial products.
Note: the JRE is a stripped down version of the JDK. All that's
required for WebEQ is the Java interpreter, which is included
in both.
- InstallAnywhere makes links to the WebEQ programs in your home
directory by default. You may wish to move these links to some
other location in your path. Note that there is also a link to
the InstallAnywhere uninstaller here.
- If you haven't already done so, you will probably want to
install the WebEQ Math Viewer archive file in your browser. The free,
self-installing archive is available at www.mathtype.com.
