THERE IS POTENTIAL TO WIPE OUT ALL DATA ON YOUR PDA IF YOU TRY TO INSTALL DRUGS BY RESTORING FROM THE ACCOMPANYING FILE. Introduction: RxWriter is a timesaving program for the Newton MessagePad and Sharp ExpertPad. Using RxWriter, any given prescription, no matter how complicated, is only a few pentaps away. No longer will you have to scribble out those complicated prednisone tapers. No more phone calls from the pharmacist who is trying to decipher your hieroglyphics. Required Hardware: 1) Newton MessagePad or Sharp ExpertPad. 2) Memory card highly recommended 3) Newton Connection kit for entering data from your desktop computer. 4) Printer--the software was developed to take advantage of pre-printed prescriptions loaded into a Stylewriter II. Please let me know your experiences with other printers. Installation: 1) Using Newton Connection Kit or Package Express, load the RxWriter program on your PDA. 2) Open the RxWriter package by tapping on the icon. You will be at the main page, note that there is only one drug preloaded. 3) Tap the Setup button, enter your personal data. Tap the close box to exit this page. RxWriter is now configured for you. Use: 1) Tap on Amoxicillin from the front page, you will be presented with a prescription for amoxicillin. 2) Utilizing the routing button (shaped like an envelope in the lower right corner) you can print a prescription or fax a prescription or beam the drug info to another PDA with RxWriter installed. NOTE: The word VOID will be printed on the demo prescriptions as well as the fax. The commercial program will be configured for your individual prescriptions. The faxed prescriptions will have your professional data. 3) New prescriptions can be entered by tapping the New button on the front page. The drug name should be tapped in via the onscreen keyboard as the drug names are unlikely to be in your personal dictionary. 4) Most data entry can be done via the popup menus that appear when one taps on the label name for dose, units, etc. on the drug entry page. Using with Newton Connection Kit: Utilizing Newton Connection Kit, available for both Mac and Windows from Apple Computer, one can back up drug information, edit drug information and enter new drugs on your desktop computer. In order to take advantage of this you will have to install RxWriter on your PDA and open the program at least once. That being done, you can synchronize your Newton and main computer. Once the machines are in synch. you can double tap on the RxWriter Drug Data lines in the connection window and view your available drugs. You can cut and paste drugs from the spreadsheet like display that you are presented with after opening RxWriter Drug Data in the Connection Kit. An backup of a Newton with a few drugs is enclosed with this demo. DO NOT RESTORE FROM THE ENCLOSED FILE. DOING THIS WILL WIPE OUT ALL DATA IN YOUR NEWTON. Installing the Demo Drugs: To install the enclosed drugs first run RxWriter once and then perform a backup of your PDA. Open the RxWriter Drug Data lines on your backup and on the enclosed file. Double click on RxWriter Drug Data in the enclosed file. You will be presented with a spreadsheet like display. Select all entries in the spreadsheet like display using the appropriate menu or keyboard command in your connection kit program. Copy the entries using the menu command or Command-C on the Macintosh. Close the enclosed drug file to prevent accidental loss of data on your Newton. Double click on the RxWriter Drug Data line on the backup of your PDA, you will see the same spreadsheet like display with only one drug entry. Paste the entries you previously copied using the appropriate menu or keyboard command. You should see the display fill up with more drugs. Now synchronize your PDA and desktop computer. After this process is done you should have numerous drugs on your PDA. Entering New Drugs via Connection Kit: Remember these items. 1) Try to use the same terminology as the program uses on the PDA. 2) Enter a Showname that will remind you of what this prescription is. This is the line that will be presented in the table on the front page of the program. A rudimentary showname will be generated for you if you leave the ShowName blank in the connection kit. It will not be as detailed as the showname generated when you enter a drug directly on the Newton. This is a limitation in Newton Connection kit that will hopefully be remedied in a future release.
