Changing the Connection for a Virtual CD-ROM

You can change the connection for a virtual CD-ROM. For example, you can associate a different physical drive with the virtual drive, or choose to use an ISO image instead of a physical drive connection.

To change the connection for a virtual CD-ROM drive:

  1. Select File > Open and open the virtual machine configuration file (.cfg) you want to modify.
  2. Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the VMware ESX Server remote console window.
  3. Click the + sign next to IDE Drives or SCSI Devices.
  4. Select a device node where you want to create a virtual CD-ROM.
  5. If your CD-ROM drive is connected, the panel is grayed out. Select Devices > ide1:0 > Disconnect and Edit.
  6. Click OK.
