My research interests are focused on the analysis and control of nonsmooth dynamical systems, such as mechanical systems with friction or impacts, switching electronic systems, or multi-agent systems with digital controllers. I am currently developing techniques to control large hybrid systems. I am also working toward the extension of the local analysis of nonlinear systems and normal form reduction techniques to discontinuous systems. Alongside these main themes, I have started some projects on the collective behaviour of networks of animal populations, I am investigating by numerical means the spreading of diseases over human networks, and I am exploring new ways of dealing with discontinuities in the dynamics and graph structure of complex networks.
Below you can see an orbit belonging to a nondeterministic chaotic attractor, something I found while investigating the local dynamics of piecewise smooth systems.
