The Get a Bigger Army Approach to Settling the Succession

Oberon, your dear Dad, is on the throne, looking to all as though he was going to rule forever. You're an ambitious young son, who'd really like to try his hand at this King thing. What do you do? Answer: Form a cabal with a couple of like minded siblings and then an alliance with a few lords of Chaos to eliminate Dad.

A trio of like minded siblings is trying to seize the throne from your dear Dad. What do you do? Rescue Dad? Answer: Don't be silly. Form your own cabal and declare yourself King.

Your brother that you hate has seized the throne before some other siblings that you don't much like could finish seizing power for themselves from your Dad the King. What do you do? Answer: Grab another who has split with his cabal, but has his own army and make a try on your own.

Okay, so it didn't quite work out that time. How bad was it? Really? A few eyes poked out here, a couple people in the Abyss there, that was an exceptional case. This could still work...

Take Finndo, he had a big army and allies from Chaos (complete with powerful artifacts and conflicting goals.) Sadly, all (well, minus a few, but you can't please everyone) his siblings got together and the whole affair didn't last three weeks. (And unhappily for Finndo, he was disintegrated on the Primal Pattern by Fiona.)

There's a lesson to be learned here isn't there? Wait let me think. Ah, yes. If you're going to steal the throne, you need to remove all your difficult siblings before you try it. Of course. Bleys, clever student that he is, figured this out: in less than a month, he and Fiona had ambushed all their relatives and stuck them in holes. With in a week, everyone was out, Brand was dead, Fiona was in hiding, and Bleys was forced to pack up and leave.

But we learn, really. Just because he didn't pull it off doesn't mean anything. I'll do it right. Here, just watch me...
