Dalamar

Master Spy of Chaos

Sort of the odd man out in a lot of ways (even compared to Nikrowd, believe it or not), Dalamar was once labelled ``Most Trustworthy of the Untrustworthy People.'' He's probably the only one of us who's ever been able to lay claim to simple, explicit marching orders. (Though probably not recently, as he seems to be more deeply caught up in Chaos internal politics these days than large portions of the aristocracy.)

Description

When we first met Dalamar, he looked to be in his late twenties, with blue eyes and brown hair cut short in front and long in the back. He was generally dressed well, in high court fashion, favoring the colors red and blue. Dalamar exhibited a pronounced fondness for birds and flying things, from winged mounts to small invisible attack birds.

More recently, Dalamar has changed his appearance somewhat. He's older looking - he now appears to be in his mid to late thirties - but he's aged well and he's cut his hair. He seems to now be wearing a wider variety of colors and styles, perhaps searching for one he likes better. There has been perhaps the occasional misstep, but nothing that has yet proved fatal.

Background

Originally from a shadow very near to the Courts, we first met Dalamar when he arrived in Chaos with the diplomatic entourage of the Ambassador from Chaos. He's just a diplomatic attache, nothing more. No, really.

Since then, we've learned that he works for the Chaos Imperial Service, just as one would expect of a member of the diplomatic corp. (Or a spy, or covert operative, or Imperial security, or, well, you get the idea.) Dalamar does seem to know a lot about security.

Points and Powers

We've always been a little unclear where exactly Dalamar's points are. He's probably got shapeshift. He's definately got conjuration -- he's forever conjuring all sorts of exciting (and frightening) birds, tailored to a specific task (eg Reconaissance, combat, etc.) One of the most memorable was ``Flotilla,'' who threw lightning bolts, duplicated, repeatedly, and held its own in a fight with a conjured Pattern dragon of Corwin's.

His points, as bid for in the original auction were:

Psyche 31	(3rd rank)
Strength	nb
Endurance	17	(3rd rank)
Warfare 1	(5th rank)
Don't believe that last one though -- we've all seen a lot of evidence that Dalamar is a much better fighter than that. He may even be as good as Katarina or Keverian.

As the run has progressed, Dalamar has gained new abilities as much as anyone else, and he is certainly now an accomplished sorceror as well as a skillful conjurer. Most recently, he's shown signs of having taken the plunge into getting a real power: he's been flashing spells with Logrus in them.

Adventures, Exploits, and Other Noteworthy Information

Dalamar has always been a big fan of birds, and being the master conjurer that he is, he's had quite a number of them. Big flying, lightning-bolt-throwing one like Celeste could even hold their own against Ur-Corwin's dragons. And Dalamar, always attentive to detail, was sure to give each an everyone of them -- from the huge flying bird factory in the sky (Flotilla) to the little mouse (Sneak) sent to scout out the castle -- a name.

``Remember: Only hold them by the blue end.'' What do you get when you leave one conjurer and spy alone with one talented but inexperienced trump artist for too long? ``The veapon:'' it slices; it dices; it shapeshifts into a wide variety of stylish weapons; if you touch the red part, it puts you in a trump trap; it even turns into a moderately sized red bird (with blue feet, of course). We'll take four.

``Dalamar, you're adorable.'' In one of our first encounters with Mary, while Dalamar and Felicia were still dating, Dalamar inquired her about what she had done with the real Felicia and she said, "Dalamar, you're adorable.". Dalamar's response? ``I am adorable. It's about time some realized that.''

Too close to a Logrus bomb. Attending a reception in Chaos, Dalamar had the misfortune to be too close to Elaine Swayhill when someone tried to assassinate her with a Logrus bomb. It was not a pretty sight and a number of important Chaosites were killed. Dalamar's memory has never been the same since. Oh, and Elaine? Not a scratch.

The Social Event of the Season Dalamar was one of those in charge of handling security for Gilva's wedding. Things did not go quite as well he might have hoped.

"I'll trade you a stuffed manticore for it." After having come into possession of the mother of all spikards -- in full view of more people than he could readily dispatch -- Dalamar and all his good and dear friends retired to Rebma to discuss what to do with it. When it became clear that no one was going to get to walk off with it and a lot of people weren't even too happy even letting the mages look at it too closely, Dalamar reluctantly agreed to give it into Dworkin's care. But not one to give something for nothing, he traded it to Dworkin.

Best of Dalamar

``The next time you decide to open a trump gate between two different patterns, please don't do it next to me.''

``She says you can have your choice: she'll either kill you, mind wipe you, or lock you up forever.'' (Felicia)
``Actually, I'm not really in favor of any of those options.'' (Dalamar)

``I wouldn't bet a conjured dollar on that.''
