Good and Bad Stuff

A couple of people have asked about the effects of various levels of good/bad stuff. For your edification, I present my idea of the level of good/bad stuff from various fictional characters, and/or some comparisons of the way a minor event (something hunting you showing up) might go if no other factors than luck came into play.

Amanda King (of Scarecrow & Mrs. King) If you've seen the show, you know what I mean. Lee always shows up to rescue her, villians become infatuated with her, clues fall into her lap, she can use handy household objects as weapons against trained agents...

Your enemy attacks the room next door to yours by mistake, and the police arrive at the scene quickly.

Indiana Jones He gets a lot of lucky breaks in combat, and usually ends up in the right place at the right time.

The enemy show up when you have a friend over.

The enemy show up when you have a slightly dubious ally over.

The enemy shows up while you're playing chess, and eats three of the pieces during the fighting.

The enemy show up while you're in the middle of a three-hour ritual you'll have to start over if you stop.

You're in the shower when they show up.

Han Solo Think about it. He starts the series hunted by Jabba the Hut, his hyperdrive is constantly either broken-down or sabotaged, he gets tortured and frozen because he has the wrong friends, and Leia's first impression was that he was a money-grubbing scoundrel. Note that he does come out ok in the end...

Not only are you in the shower, but you just got shampoo in your eyes as they burst in the door. Your trump deck is in the pocket of your jacket, in the armoire by the front door.

They show up as you're taking a quick nap.
