Tutorial

"Thermoacoustic Engines" G. W. Swift, JASA 84(4):1145-1180, October 1988. This is a technical tutorial paper published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, see the ASA Web site for more information.

Textbook

The definitive textbook is Thermoacoustics: a unifying perspective for some engines and refrigerators by G. W. Swift, published by the Acoustical Society of America, 2002 (ISBN 0-7354-0065-2). It's available for purchase online, the cost is USD $70.00 but the investment is well worth it, for anyone seriously interested in thermoacoustic engines. See the
Table of Contents and Preface here.

Simulation software

Los Alamos National Laboratory maintains a
Web site for their work in thermoacoustics. The simulation software, called DeltaE, is available for download (with some restrictions), and it also comes on a CD-ROM with the textbook above. The DeltaE manual is available at this Web site.

Other research centers

University of Mississippi researchers are working on several aspects of theory and practice.
