Geek Stuff

So, people sometimes tell me I'm a geek. They may be right.

B.O.F.H. You know him, you love him, you cannot live without him: the Bastard Operator From Hell, the original archives. There's also the new stuff by the original author, which includes the very handy Excuse of the Day.
CIAC Internet Hoax Page Feel superior to other 'Net users! Be prepared to make snide comments the next time someone forwards you that stupid "Good Times" virus warning yet again! Give your friends clues on how to identify hoaxes on their own! (And, if there had been a virus warning in the movie Independence Day, it would've looked like this.)
Geek Site of the Day With all the other variations on "cool" sites of the day, I'm not too surprised that this appeared.
Geek Test Yeah, another one of these. I scored 54.63511% (Yes, the degree of geekiness of the questions on a test is directly proportional to the number of significant digits in the scoring system. (If you didn't understand that at all, it's a safe bet that you're less of a geek than I am...)). According to them, this puts me in the "Super Geek" category. I've given up arguing.
How to Repair a PC A visual instruction manual, bound to come in handy. Sadly, this is not the type of stuff I get to do most days at work.
Illustrated Guide to Breaking Your Computer Admit it. You've thought about it.
Laundry:
A Quantum Mechanical Approach
When I found this, I was reminded of the time that Phil explained leptons to me. If I remember correctly, leptons are just like a herd of camels wandering across the desert, except only without the camels or a desert. I liked his explanation of electron-tunneling even better.
Nerdity Test Yep another purity test. This one has 500 questions. For the record, this test rated DAVE's "Nerdity Quotient" at 53.20% (well above their average of 31.07% and high enough to put me in the "need[s] some serious help" category)...
Notes for Futuristic Programmers Pretty neat with the exception of its recommending a book that Slug was involved with.
The Perl Language Page Just about any and every perl-related thing you might want can be found here, including a Perl Purity Test. Yep, same idea as all those 17 gabajillion other purity tests you've seen. For the record, as of this writing, DAVE's Perl Purity score is higher than expected at 64%. Also check out the Perl Archive with its nifty automagic redirector that will send you to the nearest mirror site.
Perl Manual A searchable perl manual online. An incredibly handy thing for those (rare) days when you realize that you actually left home without the camel book.
Perl Reference Guide A perl quick reference guide. When you already know what you want, but you need a reminder on the syntax.
The Taming of the Camel An overview of perl 5.0 by the author himself. See the slides from the talk he gave.
Vise-Grips I've long been a believer that there's almost nothing you can't fix with a screwdriver, a hammer, a roll of duct tape, and a pair of vise-grips.
Yost Serial Device Wiring Standard I don't know about you, but I can't tell you how often I've needed to know this information right now and had to go digging somewhere to find it. Well, OK, maybe this isn't a problem in your life, but perhaps that's just a sign that you have a lower "Nerdity Quotient" than I do.
