We are the newly-formed group representing the Department of [Department Name], and we arehoping to make significant improvements to the quality of our experienceat MIT. There are many aspects to this in which we plan to get involved,including:
- Overall student quality of life including:
- Cost-of-Living
- Advisor/Student relationships and conflict resolution
- Workspace/Office conditions and infrastructure
- Getting involved in admissions and incoming student orientation
- Promote the unification of the department through events such as:
- Department-wide academic seminars
- Graduate student social events
- Department sports/intramural teams
- Department-wide incoming student orientation
- Gaining input on the qualifying exam, general exam, and other degree requirements
- Alumni and Professional/Corporate relations
- Act as liaisons between the students, faculty, administration, and the Institute
- Assist in student professional development
- Increased input in Department decision-making processes, including:
- Department Chair selection
- Tenure Selection
- Fiscal Transparency
- Honor Society
