Caryl Churchill wrote Cloud 9 in 1978 for a workshop
exploring sexual politics. The play presents a look at
the changing ideas surrounding women's sexuality in the
Victorian and Post-Modern periods. It is about
relationships between women and men, men and men, women
and women. It is about sex, work, family, mothers, Africa,
power, children, politics, money, and breaking the rigid
rules to which we are all expected to hold onto.
