This show is perhaps the epitome of the 1940s romantic screwball
comedy. While the basic plot is simple -- girl plans to marry
wrong boy, and right boy stops it at the last possible moment
-- there are dozens of complications thrown in to add to the
merriment. In this case, the complications include a question of
exactly who the right man is, class-based prejudices, and the
trickle-down effect of a mid-life adultrous affair on the part
of the family patriarch.
