Welcome to the MIT Halaqa Webpage.

The MIT Halaqa is an open halaqa which anyone is welcome to join. Currently, it is being held at the MIT Musalla on Sundays at Noon. If you would like to be added to the halaqa, please email Bilal Kaleem (mbilal@mit.edu).

The Halaqa is broken up in to two groups. You get assigned to a group when you come to one of the halaqas. Each group is responsible for reading both the Qur'an assignment and the reading for that week. Each group is also responsible for approximately one page of summary of one of the two readings (Qur'an or article/book reading). The table below specifies which one of the two readings each member in your group is responsible for summarizing. Please remember to read both assignments for the halaqa and to summarize the reading that has been assigned for your group each week.
Every week, there will also be two people selected to present the readings in detail and to lead the discussion on the reading for that week. If you are assigned to present Qur'an, this entails reading tafsir associated with the ayaat assigned for that week and looking up other pertinent information related to the ayaat. If you are assigned to present the reading, you should read the article/book assigned carefully and look up any references or resources that may be useful in the discussion. Leading one of these two discussions involves preparing a short summary, deciding on how to organize and structure the discussion on the ayaat or reading, and making sure the discussion doesn't last more than 50 minutes.

The group assignments for the halaqa can be found here.
