Wyn Kelley has worked extensively in nineteenth-century American literature and culture; her book, Melville's City, examines Melville's work in its urban literary environment. Her teaching interests include American authors in historical context (Melville, Stowe, Twain, Toni Morrison), but also genre studies (melodrama, comedy), film and media, gender issues, and questions about textuality, writing, and reading. She is involved in a project (MEL, the Melville Electronic Library) to establish Melville texts and manuscripts online and is the editor of the Melville Society Extracts.
