----- INSTALLATION NOTES ----- Several files need to be located to install this software on your computer. Depending on the speed of your machine, the search may take a few minutes. To obtain the newest version of the program, this installer will transfer the software from MIT's servers. When network traffic is busy, the server may be full or function slowly, hence there may be small lags in the installation routine. ------------------------------ The file WLPRINST.TXT found where you obtained this program contains many helpful hints and troubleshooting tips for this installer. MIT users may also with to read the README.MIT file installed along with this package. ------------------------------ Troubleshooting A log of what this installer actually does to your computer will be saved as LPRSPOOL.LOG, usually in C:\TEMP. This log will report files installed, changes made to ini files/the registry, and some information on how the installer perceived your system to be configured. There will also be a log file made of the ftp process. This file is named LPR_FTP.LOG and it is located inside your temporary directory (usually C:\TEMP\LPRSPOOL) If there are errors during the ftp portion of the installation, this file will be needed to properly debug the problem. Common Errors Error # 2001: The installer cannot contact net-dist. It may be down or too busy to connect. Error # 2002: Cannot find file or directory. Check the LPR_FTP.LOG file to find out where it jammed. Check the last line of this file. Could also indicate that you have a bad (line-noise) tether connection. In either case, try running the installer 15-30 minutes later before contacting the help desk. You can also invoke this installer with some command line options to modify its behavior. Test Mode If you start this installer as "ktel.exe /T" the installer will be tested. Although the installation will look the same, no changes to your system will be made. No permanent files will be copied and no INI or Program Manager changes will be made. However, some files may be ftp'd to a temporary directory during this test. Manual Mode If you start this installer as "ktel.exe /M" the installer will run in the manual mode. You will be prompted for the locations of your Windows, System, and Temp directories. You can specify any directories, if they do not exist they will be created. Any changes to INI files will be saved into the Windows directory you specify. With this option you can have the installation run without installing any files into your real Windows and System directory. You can then manually copy the files to their proper destination. Extract Mode The /X command line option allows you to extract single files from the installation executable. The files that are contained in the Wise executable will be listed along with the file dates and sizes. You can then select a file and choose the directory to place the file into. If you follow the /X option with a pathname, all of the files in the installation executable will be placed into that directory. If the directory does not exist, it will be created. The /Z command line option acts exactly like to /X option except Windows will be exited after the files are extracted. This can be useful for BBS operators that want to perform virus scanning on all of the files in the Wise executable.
