1999/07/26 mtools requirements for zip drives on Solaris -------------------------------------------------------- raw scsi access ==> mtools setuid root (done for mtools-3.6) vold access ==> change to /etc/vold.conf (done in Athena 8.3) The current version of mtools (3.9.6) is configured to use vold for zip disks on Suns, relying on a change made in Athena 8.3 to put zip drives under vold control. This version won't run on a pre-8.3 Sun without this change, since it's no longer installed setuid root (as is required for raw scsi access). Since there's no new @sys value to make an easy split between 8.2 and 8.3, as a kludge mtools is now wrapped with a shell script which invokes the appropriate version. The real binaries and links are one level down in mtools-real (current version, for 8.3) and mtools-3.6 for 8.2. That is, the contents of arch/sun4x_56/bin/ are: mtools shell script to call correct version mtools-3.6 old mtools distrib (-> arch/sun4m_54/bin) mtools-real mtools-3.9.6 distrib [other] links to mtools script 2000/07/05 simplification for Athena 8.4 ---------------------------------------- Binaries are no longer wrapped as above (except for mzip, which is now a separate script to handle the problem with ejecting, reported some time back to mtools list but apparently not worthwhile for them to fix). 2001/04/20 mformat ------------------ mformat is now wrapped again, so that "mformat a:" gets the right geometry flags for a standard floppy.
