Steven possiblly a son of Eric (of course parentage is up to you). When on his own or in the wilderness, he is self-sufficent, capable, and reeady for anything. But when in safe surroundings, such as Amber, he become self-indulgent, careless, and likes to have too much of a good time. Another possibility is Gregory, a son of Benedict (see above about parentage) Gregory is tall, slim, and athletic like a gymnast. He has blonde hair, fair complexion, and broiwn eyes. He is also *very* good at warfare. He has been in the armed forced training as Benedict wanted him to. On duty he is controlled and discipline. However, when off duty he like to have fun (though is always careful about other people, both physically, emotionally, and mentally -- Gregory doesn't like to hurt anyone -- though this does not apply to avowed enemies of Amber). Steven would be a newcomer to Amber and Gregory would have lived in Amber all his life. Let me know which one you like and i will develop more from there. He's a lot like his father personality wise and tends to spend a lot of time in Arden with his father and his father's men and probably has some measure of command there. This is from the original mailing I sent out to start the run. First a few,let's call them ground rules: * The game will be conducted ENTIRELY over email. This avoids the hassle of scheduling runs, among other things. Depending on how things go, I may start doing player-GM interactions over the phone or such from time to time, but not immediately. All conversations between PCs should be cc'd to me. * There is to be NO DISCUSSION of the game in person. I really do have good reasons for this, most notably, it keeps those far away on equal footing with those living in the Boston area. Understand that I'm serious about this. Don't violate it. * PCs won't necessarily start knowing each other. Nor is there likely to be a coherent "party," even once you've met each other. I'm shooting for about equal parts players vs. players as players vs. the GM. FAIR WARNING: This probably means there is a finite, though not large, chance a players may kill another. (Should your character get killed off, you will have an opportunity to re-enter the campaign if you want to.) * The run is likely to involve a lot of secrets and secret keeping, as well as a healthy dose of plotting, scheming, and manipulating. Expect to be fairly "in the dark." Don't be surprised if your character's world gets completely overturned from time to time. Don't expect that what is true for everyone else is true for you, or vice-versa. This is even the case initially. Then, a few minor rules modifications (perhaps a better word is 'House rules') No advanced powers to starting characters. No more than 10 points total may be spent on allies. Good/bad stuff is limited to +15/-15 points. Be aware that once you have more than 7 or 8 points either way, you've surrendered a fair amount of control over your character's destiny to Fate (ie. me). Good/bad stuff will also reflect your characters reputation. I have been pointing out to people that it is a bad stuff kind of run and at this point over half of the charcters have at least a little. You may take 10 additional points for keeping a character diary. I prefer electronic, though you can keep them on paper, provided I can read them and I have a copy for myself. You can take 3 points for a web page (other plaers don't get to see this) and I'll up that if you do a lot of work on your page). Ask about other sorts of bribes, but they aren't real likely... He could certianly have a lot of warfare, but he's not the sort to screw around and become self indulgent... He a good option for having a spy network in Amber though. He's also a bit of a 'bad guy.' Finally, there's Noah, who I've been treating as a bit of a reserve piece up until now, waiting for the time when's his situation suddenly becomes more.. ah, interesting. Warfare is certainly incharacter for him. [incest] Actually, this is a little unclear. Random hasn't explicitly said anything on the topic, so no one is sure how Random would react if it came up... A few other comments: Read the web pages before you get much further into character development. There's some useful stuff there. A high warfare character is certainly doable -- the warfare auction went much higher than any other stat. If you want to start thinking about points, enclosed are the results of the auction. The PCs started bidding from Chaos rank, so there are ranks in between Amber and Chaos. Amber, Chaos and Human are all available, even if ou don't se them below. Instead, he went out and joined the roughest, meanest mercenaries that he could find, took them over, used them for his own ends, and abandoned them when his needs were finished. Thomas has blond hair that is straight long and pulled back into a ponytail. His eyes are clear and blue like a summer's sky. He doesn't smile often, and there is something dark and moody about him. David, my character in Ben Goodwin's The Spark campaign is #1 in strength and #2 in endurance, but Choas level in warfare. If not, let's call it Reichesia. It is a shadow, very close to Amber as it has medival technology, magic, an earth-like climate. It has one large land mass where the Emperor, Simon IV, has united the various kindgoms, dukedoms, and other power bases into a coherent and orgnaized whole. BTW, I see Jerrick van Raalte as a cousin of the Emperor, not in line for the throne, but certainly with the perks that come from related to the Emperor. Climate in the north of Reichland (the name of the empire) is misty, cold, and snowy. Think London. It increasingly becomes tropical the further south you go. Climate on the southern shores of Reichland is Carrabean in climate. Obviously, heavy metal armor is not popular and the Reichians has developed a leather and composite type armor that is lighter and cooler, but just as strong as metal. South of Reichland lies a large ocean dotted with islands ranmging from the size of Madagascar and smaller. Most of the islands are the size of Hawaii (the big island). The culture here is Polenesian (with a trace of Celtic thrown in for spice) in flavor (I will call it Keltian) and the people are fun, laid back, and enjoy kicking back in the sun sipping a margarita (to coin a phrase). However, when their ire is aroused watch out! The Keltians are expert sorcerers and naval tacticians and can kick the Reichian's butt any time they like. Despit this the two cultures are friendly and ideas and trade is freely shared across the borders of the two cultures. Jarrick holds a large portion of land near the southern beachs of Reichland. This is where Jasmine grew up. I see Jarrick as being a medium sized man but a good warrior. He has iron-colored hair, a mustache, and affects to wear a monocle. He is a leader in the Reich's military and is working with the 'scientists' of Reichland to develop balloons and zepplins. Does Jasmine have any more family? Flora won't press her to be anything but lady-like. Jerrick is quite fond of her, since she's still his 'little girl.' I thought so to. :) Jasmine is a social tiger. The ballroom, the gathering places, the dinner table. Those are her fields of battle. She is always alert to glances, stares, verbal barbs, snide comments, and other such things (I will have to rely on you to tell me such things if they ever come up). She has learned the art of war as well. Since she is the progeny of Jerrick and Flora, Jasmine is something that Jerrick treasures immensely. As such, Jasmine was able to twist her father around her little finger and get whatever she wanted. In her opinion, Fredrick agreed to fast to proposals and was all together to unctous for her taste. Also, she had the feeling that Fredrick looked at her with some interest, more interest than is healthy for the potiental bridegroom to Jasmine's best friend. Anyhow, Jasmine is riding Velvet, her horse. Velvet is black except for a white star, two white socks on her back feet and a white main and tail. Velvet has been trained in battle and is Jasmine's favorite steed. She has her armor with her, though packed up, and her sword is within easy reach. Fredrick's father tries to give her an escort, but Jasmine snuck out before the baron could insist. Jasmine estimates she has another three days of travel before getting back to her father's lands. Nichols" First, before seeing to herself, Jasmine with unsaddle and brush down her horse. She will gather loose dead wood in the area and make sure things are stationed so she could leave in a heartbeat (if she had to). She might leave things behind, but a ready saddle, the saddle bags packed, and a horse standing ready would do. Then she will get her sling out of the saddlebags, and move off a small ways searching for some meat, rabbit preferably, but squirrel will do fine. Assuming that she can not find meat since it is now dark, she will return to her camp, start a fire, and get some dried meat out of the saddlebags. With that she will prepare a small meal using local, wild vegetables (that she found in her quick hunt) and other stores that she has. Seattling back after the food is cooked, she will bank the fire, make sure she has wood to last the night, and watch the wilderness and the stars, at peace with the world. The only thing better, Jasmine thinks, is if the power of the pattern was at her command. With it, luck would always be with her, she could find a rabbit. (Corwin has one son, Merlin, but he is rarely in Amber.) There is a daughter of Deirdre's, Elena, who has come to Amber for the first time, arriving about a week ago. Benedict's son Alexander is around often. Benedict is here occasionally. Julian and his son Gregory are generally in Arden, but may turn up in the Castle a fair amount. Fiona is also here. Absalom's son Cedric is now in Amber, having arrived just before Elena. Absalom in a dead Uncle, older than Caine. Flora will then take you to meet Random, Vialle, and Martin, who seem to have recently finsihed their breakfast. Random is friendly and more straightforward than you would have expected. Vialle is also friendly, if a little quiet. Martin is polite, but not open. After you take you leave of the King, Flora wil take you to see Morley. She's in a bed in a fairly bare room. It looks like a faintly disguised hospital room. There are two guards at the door, who acknowledge Flora and take note of you. Inside the room is Gerard, checking the dressing on one of Morely's wounds. Morley herself is a strikingly good looking woman in perhaps her mid twenties. She strongly resembles Flora, except that her hair is a dark brown. She'd be even better looking if she wern't so thoroughly beaten up and weren't scowling so. She looks briefly at both you and Flora and then patently ignores you both. Gerad finishes up and Flora introduces the two of you. Gerard is likewise friendly, though he does caution you not to underestimate "that one" (Morley). On the way down you pass an intense looking young man with clear, pale blue eyes and blond hair, being followed by an unremarkble, but sullen looking servant. He looks at you closely for a moment or two and then then proceeds up the stairs. [Unless you try to talk to him. If you do, stop here.] You find the kitchen's without too much trouble. A large round man in a cook's uniform grumbles at you a little, but allows you to "liberate" some food. The stableyard is largely empty (it being fairly warm this time of day) and not the most pleasant smelling place. You find a seat on a stack of hay bales and look up at Morley's window. Heading back out to the yard, you can see a half dozen windows on that wall at various levels that might be large enough for a person to squeeze through in a hurry. The ones very near the bottom are kitchen windows. There are a couple other windows right around the window to Morley's room, which is now closed. One above and to the left, two on the same level to either side (the the one to the left is much closer), and one perhaps two floors down, almost directly below. You suspect that the walls might well be climbable, with enough skill and/or determination. There aren't any trees. The stable roof is quite possibly close enough that one could jump to it. You have no idea at all about Morley's strength, and are beginning to suspect you may not have a much better idea about her determination... Her knife arm proves tricky to get a hand on, as she's very quick. The guards in the room have drawn their swords and are out in the hallway themselves, though one is promptly blinded by a handful of something come from the general direction of Morley's other hand. Whatever it was hit the face of the other as well, but seems to have missed his eyes. A fourth guard is sounding the alarm and the fifth starts swinging at Morley, once he's extricated himself from his fallen comrade. [For reference, you haven't got enough of a warfare advantage to put her down with a snap like that. I will start laying in punches, aiming for pressure points and *hurtful* spots. By this I mean i don't mind her being in pain as long as the fight gets knocked out of her. Places like the kidneys, the groin, the side of the breasts, etc. She is also barefoot, and I am not. So I will stomp her feet to keep her off balance, but won't if it throws me off balance. If I can grab a hold of the wench, I will throw her into the wall in an effort to stun her. Basically, I don't know what is going to happen, so I want to be ready for whatever. If she does manage to fend me off with steel I will say, "You are not going anywhere Morley. You might as well give up. Your punishment is just getting worse and worse." Basically keep her talking until reinforcements arrive. BTW, does the door to her room open outward? If so, she is not getting it open if I have to throw my weight against it. The others also attempt to tackle/grab. Morley hasn't said a word yet. You deliver a number of solid blows, several of which make her react as if she felt them, but don't quite have the desired effect of stunning her. She fights dirty, and a couple of the nearest guards have scratches or worse to show for her efforts. You do manage to throw her into a wall, which she definately appears to have felt. In the end, though, she's terribly outnumbered, and one of the guards -- possibly taking his cue from your early throw into the wall -- manages to slam her to the ground, and she doesn't immediately rise from that. I don't think you actually got any significant exploring done, but inquiring of a servant might well provide the following information: There's certainly a large courtyard, surrounded by castle walls in the center of the castle. It has a sort of garden in it. There are also numerous gardens around the outside of the castle, many of which are partly enclosed by castle walls, or at least within the perimeter patrolled by the palace guard. There is one small garden between the castle and the cliff's edge which has a nice view of the sea and down towards Rebma. (Near those stairs that Corwin & Bleys fought their famous battle on.)
