Downloading the software

Instructions

Please send a letter to Danny Kaplan (danny@macalester.edu) giving your name, street address, email address, and phone number. This allows me to inform you if there are changes to the software.

Note that the software comes without a warrantee of any type. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. You are strongly advised to test the software on "toy problems" to verify that it works and that you are using it in a manner consistent with its design.

Please do not distribute the software yourself. If there is someone interested in the software, please refer them to this site.

Platforms

The software is all Matlab m files. They have been tested on several types of computers (SUN-OS, LINUX, Mac, Windows-NT), and should work on any platform on which Matlab works. If you get results that seem inconsistent with those described on the other pages on this site, please contact me.

Installation

The steps are:

  1. Create a new directory somewhere on your system
  2. Download the software to that directory, and unpack it. (See below.)
  3. Use the path command in Matlab to access the directory where the software is located.

Downloading and Unpacking

The software is available in two formats:

  1. A tar archive: The tar'ed file dksoft.tar and a version of tar for Dos/Windows in case you don't have this software. (Change the name from "tar" to "tar.exe" after you have downloaded it.)
  2. By individual files
Using the tar archive is by far the easiest, if you have a UNIX system or a Windows/DOS system.

Tar on Windows/DOS: If you do not have tar on your Windows/DOS system, you should download the file tar which you can then use to extract the matlab files. Once you have downloaded tar, change the file's name to tar.exe. After this, the command to extract the files is:

tar xvf dksoft.tar
