Before I tell Vijay that we know who is doing what for SGI's could you three look this over and tell me if it seems like the right thing? -wdc ---- Preliminary outline of Plan to move forward on SGI's There is a LOT of work to do with the SGI's: Ongoing: Somebody's got to be able to field questions about SGI's from the field. currently wdc, mbarker are point men here. I would like to be able to also use Cfields somewhat in this capacity as well. Short term (next 6 months): Enable wdc to read his mail on them :-) Fix the applixware panic problem. Make sure we can reproduce an Athena Irix 5.3 release. Intermediate Term (6 -12 months): Fixup of most eggregious faults in current SGI install: i.e. Turn hand-toolings into reproducible documented work Get errors displayed to report errors, and be silent if all is well. Develop easier way to take OS distribution and integrate it. Work on doing an IRIX 6.2 port. Long term (beyond 12 months): Collaborate with SGI on a better install system. Do an Athena deployment of O2 hardware. Personnel: 40% Greg 50% Craig, 10% wdc, 20% mbarker 1 FTE is enough to make forward progress on this. But we anticipate dedicating an appreciable fraction of one of the new hires to do SGI work. wdc does vendor liason ghudson does release engineering and assists cfields with development and design. cfields designs and develops the new ways. mbarker answers questions and helps organize. We have currently NOT conceived of any projects to contract to Mark Virtue for. We'd like to try and stand on our own two feet for a while, but we should probably try and figure out how much is fair picking his brains for answers to questions about how he did stuff.
