OSF is having a contest for the best demos using Motif widgets. Two $1,000 prizes will be awarded. Until today the rules stated that the program had to use the raw Xm widgets, not UIL, so I had not announced the contest. Today, they lifted that restriction, and it is probably worth submitting some of our entries. What follows are the contest rules and can also be found in the file /afs/athena/mit/motifdev/src/snapshot8/osfinfo/democontest. Note that the rules are not quite up to date. Uil is allowed, and the line that says "All entries will become the property of OSF" has been ammended to allow entrants to put their entries into the public domain. (Though OSF reserves the right to not accept entries that are put into the public domain, or something like that.) Note that the due date is July 14th. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Become rich ** Become famous ** Receive recognition from your peers ** -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Open Software Foundation is offering two $1,000 prizes for the best demo written using Motif (tm). Entrants' demos will be judged by the following criteria: o Visual appearance o Functional capabilities o Portability (among differing architectures - color or monochrome displays) o Performance o Usefulness o Inventiveness There will be one prize awarded for usefulness, and another awarded for cleverness and creativity. (This is an attempt to glorify both whizziness and practicality!) Here's how to enter: Description of entries should be sent as soon as possible by email or regular mail to dbrooks@osf.org (uunet!osf.org!dbrooks) or: David Brooks Open Software Foundation 11 Cambridge Center Cambridge, MA 02140 The entry itself should be sent via email (in some mailable format) or on a cpio nine track magnetic tape and should consist of sources and a Makefile. We should be able to build it without extraordinary effort. Restrictions: Entries must be written in a common C dialect (K&R or ANSI), compile and link (on the first attempt), be legally unencumbered, and make good use of the Motif toolkit. Applications written to uil will not be accepted. Selections will be reviewed by the OSF Technical Staff. Selection of Winner will be final. Winners will receive a $1,000 check from OSF and the Winners' names will be published in OSF's monthly newsletter OpenLine that goes out to all OSF members. All entries will become property of OSF and may become part of the OSF demo suite. All entries must be received by OSF no later than July 14, 1989. Void where prohibited by law.
