I've tried running demo-pygmalion on zonker, and all the various things
I tried worked just fine.  Not being familiar with the program I may
have missed some crucial incantation that causes the ugly bug to show
its head, but I have a feeling that I pushed just about all the buttons
there were to push.  The program didn't get upset, so I think it sought
therapy and adjusted to the broken world (i.e., you've put a workaround in).

Would it be difficult for you to put together a version of your program
that did what it used to do?  I checked the intrinsics and the override
shell does create a window with save-under enabled.
