Brian> (I'll accept dumb answers, too. :-) Brian> -- Brian Pallaium are the things of the future :) Seriously, Palladium allows logical printers to be connected to many physical printers and also allows you statements like "I want to print to the closest printer with blue paper and of size xxx by yyy" - even though such frill are present it is not enabled. So in case of calvin, we could have 5 printer and if you queue to calvin, it would send it to the first free one. Or there could be 2 lineprinters, 1 ln03 and 2 ln03r and it would chose the printer according to the type of file you sent it. Palladium also has accounting and will soon have quota management - I am working on that right now. It can restrict people from printing greater that so many pages... and uses kerberos so it is fully authenticated. One concept of palladium is that it should be for a distributed network system (like we have here at Athena) so that all management functions can be done from people anywhere and does not have to login into the printserver to print there explictly. As you probably noticed, the clients pdpr, pdpq, pdrm do basically the same things as its lpr/lpq/lprm counterparts but much more is going behind the scene. Well thats a short run-down.
