Several of us are concerned that the agreement does not guarantee the
right to use and distribute our own work for noncommercial purposes, and
thus interferes with the free exchange of ideas.  For instance, we want
to be able to share our software with researchers at other institutions.
Alan Ruttenberg and I have come up with some suggested modifications to
the agreement which we hope will correct this.  

MT's version:
 I shall be granted a nonexclusive license to use my own work for
 noncommercial use and to sublicense the work to others for
 noncommercial use.

AlanR's version:
 While this contract grants MIT unrestricted use of intellectual
 property resulting from work I have done at MIT, I reserve the right to
 use this property and to grant permission for others to use the
 property, as long as the use is not for profit.

We haven't presented this to the Powers yet; we hope to do so in the
next few days.  Further suggestions are welcome.
