Subject: thesis advisor....

Brian;

I'm looking for an advisor and thought you might be able to
help out. Essentially, the project I'm considering would
develop hypertext linking systems for literary volume cross-referencing.

As a specific prototype, we wish to take the 18 different printings
of Ulysses by James Joyce and cross-reference them to each other
(there are many significant changes in each subsequent printing
during Joyce's life). Additionally, we will be tying in the commentary
that has been created for these various editions so that a researcher
can place themselves in front of a single system and be able to
research and cross-reference the entire work in all of its different forms
including the many commentaries.

This would be co-sponsored by the Joyce Research Center at BU, but in
order for them to commit to the project, they would prefer that I use
this project as a graduate degree study. This means that I need to
find an advisor here at BU (or another local institution) to sponsor
the "computing" end.

Would you be able to give me a bit of direction with this? I'm
rather a novice at the whole graduate scene.

thanks, david
