Dear Mrs. Glaser,

I would like to request to renew my stipend to the 1988--89 academic
year. 

As you may recall, last year Vice President Jon Westling took an
interest in my work after an interview with Professor William Shannon,
then Director of the University Professors Program, and myself. I was
subsequently assigned a \$12,000 stipend to perform advanced research
beyond the level being conducted by neighboring institutes. I have
accomplished much of this research. I have co-founded the Research in
Expert Systems and Qualitative Knowledge Laboratory with Professor
Anthony Barrand, my advisor. Using the quarter of a million dollars
worth of computer equipment and software donated by Symbolics Inc. 
to the university for my dissertation research, 
I have successfully founded a new interdisciplinary
field, both as a
science and a new artform. This field, called Kallitechnics, has been
of great help in additional research under Professor Barrand into
Visual Perception and Human Movement.

This will be my last year here at Boston University. The work I've
produced here is still ahead of that produced at M.I.T. in this area
and is quite
timely. Still needed is to place the polishing touches to my research, produce
a few artworks to illustrate specific computer techniques, and
most importantly, to document these ideas and techniques into a
dissertation so that the scientific community will be aware of the
work done here at the university.

At present, I am forming my dissertation committee from professors in
the University Professors Program, the Computer Science and 
Art History Departments of the Graduate School.
Enclosed is a copy of my recently completed dissertation proposal,
which indicates the extent to which this new science effects
state-of-the-art computer science, artificial intelligence, 
art, psychology, theology, and many other fields. It is my hope to
concisely outline this new science in my dissertation this upcoming year.

I have greatly appreciated the opportunity which was afforded me through
the interest of Provost's Office this past year. I hope that I will be
able to complete this work and bring it into the scientific limelight
this year through your continued support. For this reason, I am
requesting a renewal of my stipend to this new academic year.
