Subject: Motif - ICCCM - X11 R3/R4 Xlib

Motif 1.0 is based on X11 R3, and is stated to be ICCCM-compliant.
ICCCM mods for Xlib are showing up in R4. What is missing in Motif 1.0
with R3 Xlib that I get with Motif 1.0 with R4 Xlib?

The things that you get with Motif under R4 as opposed to R3 will be
primarily those enhancements which R4 makes to the toolkit (such as a
function which will allow you to get a widget list of the children of a
composite widget). Motif will eventually run under R4, but what you will
get by bying 'R4 Motif' will be the enhancements to the toolkit R4 makes. I
wouldn't count on a rewrite of Motif to take full advantage of any speed or
structural improvements R4 makes over R3.

Motif 1.0 was built (and tested) on R3 Xlib. Is there any problem with
building and running Motif 1.0 with R4 Xlib?

Although I cannot say for certain what would happen if you built Motif 1.0
with the R4 Intrinsics because nobody has them yet, It would be HIGHLY
unlikely that it would work. Motif is planned to be available for R4 by the
2.0 release which, unfortunately, I believe is a ways off.

Thanks in advance for your responses.
