This is the first draft, and then the first published edition
(also labeled "Draft", but dated May 2) for the first-ever workstation
document.  The first workstations installed were in the Civil
Engr private cluster.  The Draft was composed by Bill Bryant and
myself largely to force decisions on a large number of key issues
about the configuration that simply were not being answered by
development or operations.  It succeeded in getting the planning
process actually going, although only a few weeks before they
actually stuck the workstations out.  It is the best example here
of the role Documentation played in catalysing management planning
at Athena.

I also always thought that this document presented the best outline
for how one would want to document a private workstation and running
a private cluster.  Alas, when the next big such project came
through, the living groups cluster document, the student who
was doing it (Andrew Leslie under Bill Bryant's direction) did
not use this as a starting point.  I think the document he put
out much less effective in structure and approach.  There never
was a revision B to this thing, although there ought to be.
