This error is caused by a bad meta file.  One possible cause for this is
writing to a filesystem that is over quota.

To fix the problem you need to recreate your .met file (if you are over
quota and are writing to one of your directories, then you should get
under quota first).  You should replot your graph, then use the "meta"
command again.
