The error message:
 
 Netscape has detected a /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/.../.netscape/lock file 

is no cause for alarm.

The lock file is generated each time you start up netscape. If
you log out without properly quitting netscape, the lock file remains. 
So, the next time you start up netscape, it thinks you are running another 
copy of netscape somewhere else.

To fix this, first exit netscape and then type:
      
    rm ~/.netscape/lock

and then restart netscape.

To prevent this from happening in the future, make sure to exit netscape
_before_ logging out.
