Vacancy Announcement
Indiana University is inviting applications for the position of Director of
the Black Film Center/Archive at the tenured associate or full professor
rank. The faculty member will hold an appointment in the Department of
Afro-American Studies. Strong interest can also be given to joint
appointment in Communication and Culture, or another department consistent
with teaching and research interests. The faculty member would teach two
courses a year; under the latter arrangement, the faculty would teach one
course in each department per year. The BFC/A director (50% FTE) exercises
general supervision over all BFC/A activities, budget, and staff; undertakes
and encourages scholarly research in African American film; supervises the
publication activity of the Center; expands present holdings and supervises
their preservation; develops grant proposals for major projects; sets policy
and establishes operational goals for the BFC/A, in consultation with the
Center's Advisory Council and the appropriate chair(s).
The Black Film Center/Archive is internationally recognized as one of the
most prominent centers for the study of black film. Founded in 1981, the
Center is looking for a dynamic administrator who can organize and develop
new programs for the 21st century.
Deadline: November 1, 1998 or until position is filled.
Appointment begins: Academic year 1999-2000
Salary: Commensurate with experience and rank
