Workstation tables purchased. Most recent was on 4/14/87. Previous
tables cost $299 less a 20% discount. Most recent table was somewhat
more expensive by roughly 15%. For more purchases it was recommended
by Rita that we may want to go to a different vendor. The costs listed @i(do not
include assembly). Assembly requires 2 people, 30 minutes, and four
screw drivers:

@\Large Phillips head (cross head)

@\Small Phillips head

@\Large straight head

@\Small straight head

All should be long shaft.

Inmac publishes catalogs periodically, and Rita gets them. The catalogs usually contain a fair quantity of amusing photo's so even if you don't use them they're fun to look at. Inmac also supplies other equipment, including such items as security cables and communications cables. The cable that runs to the plotter and the one that goes to room 5-308 were supplied by Inmac.

Very helpful guy. He will direct installation people to drop buy and install equipment. The current system we use is the 007 Cable Lock. This is the method used for securing the Laser Printer, the Plotter, and the RT, and superseeds the other locks. These locks are really just a deterent. A determined guy with a hammer could make off with all this stuff. Check to make sure what days he'll have people in the area, as they visit MIT often. They know their way around so you can give them room numbers.

Recently (around June '89), the department was given notice that Accounts thought Compu-Lock was overcharging us. This may or may not be true. Regardless of the prices, they give good service. At last look the "007" system costs around $70 + $10 installation. While admittedly we don't get a whole lot for it, it's still a hell of a lot cheaper than any other method.

Extra Pads for the 007 locks are called '004' and cost (list) like $10 each. We do much better with this dude when you can get a bulk order together and haggle the price down. You are also much better off doing the installation yourself. It involves all the complexity of sharpening a pencil, and saves the department $10 per.

His old address is:

41 Laurelwood Drive

Stoughton MA, 02072

Purchasing has this address in their database, but it is no longer valid. When time permits, it should be changed.

Irv LaForge uses a different cable lock system that is also self installed. It is considerably cheaper (around $30 each), but does not use as imposing a set of cables. In addition, it is tougher to get customized orders... Most important, perhaps, you don't get to enjoy the fine art of haggling with Rich, a sport in and of itself.

J.M. Lancaster has retired. I don't remember the name of the guy that I talked to here. These guys only distribute equipment to retailers. They prefer not to sell direct, so see NEDT. They are however, a great source of info on who to talk to at Houston Instruments (Athena's DMP-62 and the Navy's DMP-56A are Houston Instruments). They have also supplied plotters to Lincoln Labs.

This is a struggling company just starting out. They supplied the Athena plotter for list price ($5795) less a 22% discount. This discount was because the order was @i(prepaid). If it isn't prepaid we still would've gotten an 18% discount.
