Okay, it's like this: Dirk Brightwind and Shellar Rebecca knew each other quite well 6 years ago or so, before war was declared and they both joined their respective armed forces. Rebecca's daddy was military, and she wasn't the son he always wanted...she became a soldier to spite him, and discovered she was immune to the Badge. She served as law-enforcement while on leave from soldiering, and discovered the existence of the Ptaavs. She joined them. She was then contacted by Dirk, who offered her her own territory in the Clanlands for her cooperation in an arms-smuggling deal. She would intercept a shipment of enchanted arms and armor on their way from the House of Guilds to the Justiciar. He also told her that if anything went wrong, she should leave a message for him at the House of the Veil, in some predetermined location (so that Charity would find it, though he didn't tell her that.) Here things started to go wrong. Rebecca was given her instructions in a sealed envelope; when she read them they included a magical pendant that was supposed to shrink the crate of arms down to a managable size and an incantation that would transport those deva, along with the crate, to Marshall Brightwind, who was running the Clan's military (Dirk got it from Nahor) Well, Rebecca had never told Dirk she was a ptaav; she couldn't use it. Gulp. She contacted Moses, the only person she could trust at all who knew anything about magic. Moses couldn't shrink it, of course, but he tricked Tuvan into doing it with "Master, I've found this pendant but can't seem to get it to work..." Tuvan used his madwand talent, established that it was a shrinking talisman, and demonstrated its use on the nearest large object -- the thoughtfully well-placed crate. Wonderful. Rebecca got it back, but still couldn't teleport it...so she attached a note to it saying that the transportation didn't work, and left them both in the House of the Veil, where she spotted one of her fellow Guardsmen going off into a room... no big deal, but she humphed at it, being something of a prude. (This is of course the one who turned up dead). Well, Charity had stolen a scroll from one of her customers, who had been the victim of the Dance of Morgana and the Deathbath, that (when she resolved it) had upon it a spell of Curse(this is actually Hadoram Madai's page of the Darkhold, which he is now missing, having woken up stark naked in the crypt...). She, who had more of a penchant for trickery than straightforward warfare, decided it would be a better idea to simply curse the items and let the Realm use the thus-cursed armor to its eventual destruction [that way weakening both countries for the Black Hand's eventual takeover]. She did so, then delivered the package back to the Justiciar. (The page vanished when Chthon did his summoning, she thinks it was stolen, and Madai is walking around again...) So when Marshall doesn't receive it and contacts Dirk, he asks Charity, who claims she never saw it. Meanwhile, the cursed armor box makes its way to the Justiciar's office, where Aram spots it. He takes it to the Castle, note that most of the armor/weapons have been made normal by the curse.
