There are many gods and lesser spirits who take an interest in the world, and many religions and cults have sprung up around them. Thus, many individuals follow the ways of various gods and spirits, to varying degrees of fervor. The most fervent of these are generally referred to as priests, and often dedicate themselves to spreading the way of their patron spirit(s) to others. Many priests choose to become missionaries or adventurers, fighting the enemies of their sect or spreading its word to unknown places. These are often powerful individuals, trained in the skills of the priesthood, sometimes trained in magical arts as well, and often trained in the arts of shamanism or spiritualism (see Spiritualists). -------- There are two major pantheons that are known in every land in some form or another. One is primarily worshipped by civilized folk, the other primarily worshipped by "barbarians". In addition, of course, there are hundreds if not thousands of other gods who are worshipped locally. Lords of Karadur This is one of the most powerful pantheons of divine spirits in the world, known in almost all civilized lands. As such, priests of most of these gods have Reputation, 11- among civilized folk. Mali and Jakri were the daughters of Order and Chaos, respectively, and between them they brought forth Gort, the leader of this pantheon, to choose between them and decide whether the gods would honor Order or Chaos. Gort, who was equal parts of both, did lay with Jakri, and their son Kayim was born; then did he lay with Mali, and birthed the twins Pyrian and Talian. And Talain and Pyrian did go to the world to study it, and Mali did go with them, to aid its people, while Jakri and Kayim remained in the realm of the gods, amusing themselves with their antics. And Gort did choose to go to the world, choosing Mali and alligning himself with Order. And Jakri and Kayim did follow, and Jakri did become embittered with Gort and did hide herself in the shadows, swearing vengeance for his infidelity. Gort, god of kings and leaders, bringer of life. Rightful authority is important to the sect of Gort, and all of his priests and followers must obey it. To abuse or abdicate responsibility is a great sin; a priest of Gort must always assume leadership if he feels qualified to do so. Oratory +2. Kayim, the trickster, protector of children and entertainers Entertainment, adventure, enjoyment of life and of one's place in it, and the satisfaction of one's physical and emotional needs are the most important thing to a follower of Kayim, more important than life itself. One who is unhappy, anxious or despairing must be removed from this state by whatever means. Priests of Kayim generally attempt to spread this doctrine to others, in different ways: cheering the despairing, humiliating the self-important; some demonstrate the futility of relying on possessions by engaging in theft; still others assume the lifestyle of the assassin, dispatching those who restrict the freedom of others to enjoy life, or more extremely, killing those who do not enjoy life. Unable to choose between them, she did return to her dealings with the world, and they did follow her, bidding for the affection which she would grant to the one whose following upon the world was greater. And Kia, who had come to love Hun and desire him, was torn between love for her sister and jealousy of her, and did retire from the lands that had been their shared joy and did dwell amidst the waves.
