Ruk-Zahav - ("Gold Mountain")
  Although this is not common knowledge, Gold Mountain gets its name
from the gold dragon Aurun who uses it as his lair.  Aurun is a
powerful magic-using dragon who can, among other things, change its
shape and form at will; it aided the dwarves in the area against the
duergar and was invaluable in the Dark War, where it came to enjoy the
dwarves' company.  When the war ended, Aurun invited a family of
dwarves to live in the mountain atop which it laired, and this family
became the Mother-Clan of the area.
  Ruk Zahav engages in considerable trade with the Empire, and shares
a border with it.  The Gold Dwarves are free to travel throughout the
Empire with all the rights of Imperial citizens. 
  Although the vast majority of Gold Dwarves are traditional dwarves,
the Clan has achieved some notoriety among the other Clans of Karadur
for breaking tradition.  Ruk-Zahav houses the only dwarven enclave of
mages on the continent and perhaps in the world, where (usually young)
dwarves come to learn magic from Aurun and his disciples.  
NOTES.
  Aurun has recently accepted a challenge-bond from a powerful red
dragon further to the Northeast.  The nature of the challenge-bond is
strange, but as part of it the participants become rivals for all
things until at last one has taken over the territory, goods, servants
and power of the other.  Challenges usually last for centuries.
  The red dragon is beginning to elicit a general hatred among the
Gold Dwarves for the dragon, the enclave of magic, and the Mother-Clan
of Ruk-Zahav.  Several other clans in the area are considering civil
war to wrest control of the area for themselves.  The entire Clan is
slowly boiling over, but the Mother-Clan is oblivious to it.
