Hunger. Pain. These are the two sensations that claw at your being,
brining you back from the blessed nothingness of slumber. By the Dark
Lord of All, you ache!! Physical form... who needs it? (You do, oh
mighty Lord of Limbo, for all the good it appears to do you. And you
should stop talking to yourself.) The form is weak, uncomfortable...
and necesary. Wretched humans!
 (smile
at your own joke, oh Lord of Aching Limbs and Head... Limbo may not
suffer time as these mortals know it, but only few, such as yourself,
understand its nature....)

Calm yourself, Lord Kryssonyx. Your minions would be much amused to
see their lord and master in such a state!

what IS that annoying
feeling? Oh yes, you ate "food", and must now relieve yourself.
Really, physical form is a bother. Whyever would the humans choose to
stay in it?

Ha. Poor creatures, they have no choice in the matter. Nor, mighty
one, do you... as much as it must pain you to admit it. (Really, this
relieveing a body-sac of its contents is such an annoyance!) Oh, if
you ever catch up with that self-styled sorcerer, you'll make short
work of him!! And the blasted Tualoic Palladin with him!! To have
those two blundering humans meddling where they shouldn't... and in
YOUR OWN CASTLE, yet..!! Calm, calm. Perhaps once again going over
events will help clear your head, and stop your ears from ringing....

Hmm.... How @i(did) it happen?

It was an ordinary time, like any other (oh, you are the wit today!),
and you were in your library with your prime minister, Nikolai

A bit of a sticky
wicket (where did that prase come from? What in the Abyss is a
wicket?), that one...

Anyway, you and Nikolai were having a pleasant, if one-sided little
chat in your library, when all of a sudden this bezerker Gaeic comes
tearing through the door (forgetting to open it... Mortals!!), with
the damned Palladin right on his heels. They seem to be involved in a
nasty dispute, and the Palladin seems to have the upper hand when
suddenly the Gaeic pulls a soul-gem from somewhere and hits the
Palladin's sword with it (yes, sword. That's what it had to be,
despite the fact that yours is an energy realm... puzzling, for the
sword would itself have to have a soul if it were to manifest in
Limbo...?). The Palladin (all ikky blinding white, like most of the
Tualohic fanatics. Still, his belief did keep him alive in your realm,
even though his existance did tend to give you headaches, and you
tried to eliminate him once or twice. A pox on the interfering Elder
Gods!!)

Well, the gem hit the sword and the sword stopped glowing even as the
gem did. The gaeic muttered some gibberish, then hit the Palladin
with the rock, and a rock is exactly what the Palladin fell like... or
started to. He managed to lash out blindly (last ditch effort?) and
strike down Nikolai, even as he recovered. Suddenly, a warp between
Limbo and Gaea's World opens up ... yes, in MY LIBRARY!!... and they
both dive through it, sreaming. Naturally, with my advisor slain and
nasty things happening in what I THOUGHT was a good neighborhood, I
forgot about the girl.

Mistake number one. No, two... one was not frying the creatures when
they dared to tread upon my demenses (remember to upgrade the alarm
system when... if... you get home). At any rate, she senses that she
belongs on the other side of the warp and dives through. I could not
afford to lose her this close to the Equinox; I had to follow.

Not my most brilliant idea.

So you found yourself on this Chthon-forsaken world, on a castle in
the air with a link to Tualoah so strong it makes your bones ache.
You found yourself with bones, too... most uncomfortable. You've
taken shelter in the House of the Veil's quarters, amid your servants,
and, comfortingly enough, the mother of the girl you're after. (This
is useful; should you fail to find the girl, you might be able to
substitute the mother --- or the incestuous father --- instead.) You
may, at some point, wish to reveal your true nature to them. The
elder one, Rose, has something interesting at the edges of her aura,
as well... you might investigate that. You might even find other
agents of yours here; and once they know your nature, they'll be more
than happy to serve you. Should any of them offer invaluable
assistance, you can reward them properly once you've returned to your
realm. Here, however, your powers are considerably diminished, and
you must continually feed on the mithryl-manna-rocks these cretins use
for currency. You have to eat food only because Lilith looks quite
upset if you don't clear your plate, and as you're subject to her
hospitality... You remember when you first had contact with her:

@i[You'd felt a scraping at the veil between worlds; someone was
calling for the highest power they could contact, and it happened to
be you. It was a young gaeic female, and... she carried a child of
Damnable Circumstances; exactly what you needed!! She cried that she
be granted her heart's desire, and opened the way into her sanctuary.
Pushing a few lesser demons aside, you announced yourself... ]

"You who name yourself Daviwynna, I answer your call, and will grant
your heart's desire, if you agree to grant me a boon."

@i[The girl was unafraid... spunky.] "I would know the name of the one I
deal with,"@i[ she called across the veil. You made the standard #2
entrance, wind around the room, then mist-to-flesh in the proscribed
octagon, all black but your glowing red eyes. You decided you wanted
your hair to shine for that one.]

"I and Kryssonyx, High Lord and Master of Limbo. You may help me as I
help you, and I hereby grant your heart's desire..."@i[ You noticed her
tremble; she had not bargained with getting one as powerful as you,
and it scared her. You could walk straight through any ward she had
set, and she knew it. She also knew that you wouldn't; you'd never
violate the rules of this game. You have your honor, and to violate
her trust would be to violate yourself. ]

@i[Her desire, although she knew it not, was companionship. She'd
never really had someone totally loyal to her and her alone; she'd
never really known adoring love. Her soul thirsted for it, and it was
easy enough to remedy. You pulled an intelligent deva from your
realm, ordered it to love the girl, and shifted it into the shape of
one of the lizards witches often use as familiars...]

"I do not understand, High Lord," @i[ she looked puzzled, but took the
beast from your hands. You then watched her unbelieving, joyous smile
as she realized what you had given her... she was about to cry.]

"There, little one, there is no need for tears. You are happy, that I
can see. But there is a steep price for the gift I have fiven you...
you must, in return, give me your unborn daughter." @i[She was
startled; she hadn't even known she was with child... she agreed
immediately, though, and when the babe was born, you spirited her
away, and granted the lizard-beast the ability to glean your library
for any information Daviwynna might reqire...]

You've noticed that the girl has grown up a bit, and changed her
name, at your suggestion. Now, it seems, you owe her another favor...
and you may have to ask another if you cannot find her daughter!

Curse that gaeic scourge for starting all that trouble in your
library! If you ever see him or his Tualoahic companion, you'll...
you'll think of something. A nice, slow revenge. But only after
you've found the girl.. and gotten some of your powers organized. And
had lunch; you're hungry! You might, if you're bored, find some of
the other Chthonically alligned denizens of this plane... the Darkhold
lords, for example. You've had dealings with at least one of their
number, only you can't remember his name. You're sure to recognize
him, though. And it would be a blessing if you could find out the
Tualoahic power source in the castle... the pain is starting to get to
you. You also noticed that some folks have posted a "bill" against
magic. It sounds legal; you're good at legal arguments, so you might
have some fun playing demon's advocate...

Your first order of business is to find this Victor Greystone
character; he appears to be the acting head of the clan you've decided
to pass yourself off as a member of...(Watch your grammar, High Lord,
you're getting sloppy...) You can introduce yourself as one of their
Observers, those who make sure that contracts are legal and will be
honored by the parties involved. Contracts are your specialty, and if
you can perhaps add in a line or two about getting some of a
participants psyche-points each day, it'll keep you from starving! If
this Victor fellow doesn't believe you, you can prove your Sincerity
as you tell him that you've been observing contracts as long as you
can remember, and not a one has been broken! You're from just to the
outside of Greystone's official territory, which is why you've never had
the fortune to interact with him. You're glad you're on the castle,
as you've great interest in the wonders it holds, and you hope you can
find something you like that you can convince the owner to part with.
If you say it just like that, you'll be telling the truth, and he
won't be able to doubt you. Your ability to be believed comes in
handy sometimes...!

@i[You are posing as Krys Onyx Greystone, and observer of the
Greystone clan. The items you posess number some nice clothes, two
rings, a Siver Circlet, ornamental sword and dagger (all of which you
keep hidden), and a pantherskin robe, your favorite, which you like to
wear. It's different here, but that's the way it goes somehow. The
few abilities you still have in the magic department are See
Invisible, Read Aura, Negate Magic (limited), Item Lore and Sense
Limbaic Influences. You can also tinker with this world's sorceries a
bit; not much, but something to experiment with. Your mental
abilities are intact: Sense of Honor, Awareness, Speed, Preist of
Chthon, Sincerity, Observer, Read Languages, Speak Magical Jargon :
Level 2. You are, as a demon, unfortunately Addicted to Gambling.
You are an immortal; there is no risk too great to take, provided you
can still finish what you've set out to do afterwards... Your physical
abilities are limited here; you may Defend yourself with a Dagger
(+2), and Escape most situations. If you do not keep your manna
intake at a suficient level --- you need to obtain the equivalent of
10 psych points a day --- your physical and magickal abilities will
deteriorate steadily, and you may die if you allow yourself to do so!
--- Only temporarily, though... you will return to Limbo without the
girl, and lose your million-year bargain with Chthon... and He doesn't
deal with losers.... You'd better get started on harnessing those
psych points, through mithryl or contracts, and you'd better do it
fast! Good luck!]
