Of course, it's not really the criminals who are to blame. It's the
Guard. The Guard and their precious Justiciar. He organizes it all
--- all the security at your museum. His people patrol; his people
install the alarms. He's also the only one besides yourself that
knows the entire security setup of the museum. It doesn't take two
and two together to tell you there's something crooked going on!
Haggai Nahum's never really seemed like an appropriate choice for the
job. Hmmmph. 'S got shifty, beady little eyes, too. Not to be
trusted. And your paintings!

It wouldn't all be so bad if, say, you were just the curator. No, you
own all the blasted things due to a special dispensation of the
Realm... the one that requires that you open the Realm's biggest
private art collection to public view? Hmmph. Blasted silly idea, and
Nahum's probably got something to do with it. No, he's not that bad.
It's the Peers. The government; you know, the ones who got the Rose
Warriors disbanded. You were --- are --- a fighter; now you're just a
bit rusty, and stuck in a dank old museum most of the time. "Capitol
City Art Gallery" indeed! 'S all yours, and the blasted politicans
would do well to keep their noses out of your business!

Probably has something to do with all the blasted animals that have
been running all over the place, too... Government's style. Beady
eyes, those folk got, all of 'em. Like the hydra you had to stop this
morning... Damned Castle! Supposed to be your vacation, this is, and
it's more of a circus. You'd better leave this place with one or two
items for the museum, or this trip will be a total bust!

Or worse... imagine running into Davi--- eh, Lilith, as she calls
herself now. Your daughter, your precious daughter, who hates you
enough to erase the name you gave her, erase all ties to you, and take
a new name, the archaic form of "Poison". Five years ago you drove
her away...

You were drunk, fool, face it. Hmmmph. Totally drunk, and your
beautiful daughter... so much like her mother!... came home. Oh, she
never spent much time at home... was a waitress, or somesuch, before
she became a whore... well, you @i(did) drive her to it... How much
self-respct is a girl going to have when her own father rapes her?

Ach, if you could just take that back. You didn't mean to; you tried
for a few years just to explain, not even to get forgiveness. But
Daviwynna --- er, Lilith --- was too bitter. She'd never listen.
Still doesn't; when she saw you here yesterday... it's a damn good
thing that looks @i[don't'] kill! Aahhh, what happened with her? SHe
was such a good girl when she was little ... when her mother was
alive. Even after Marrewyn died, everything was all right for a few
years... then she started staying out late, then away for days...
about the time you started drinking a lot.

Hmmm... that was probably it... it's amazing how objective you've
gotten in your old age, Abra'm... What sixteen year old girl would
want to stay around a rotten-tempered old man? And you hit her...
when you were most drunk... admit it, you hate yourself for it. Good
thing you gave up the bottle, or you'd've probably killed yourself
because of the guilt and the greif... not that you don't deserve it.
Your poor Daviwynna! You need to talk to her, if you can... she can't
leave the Castle any more than you can, what with the teleport discs
nonfunctional. You do love her, and you miss her. And you have so
much to make up to her...

Enough reminiscing. Two paintings disappeared just before you took
this little vacation, and you've got reason to believe at least one of
them is on this Castle. Gomer's "Sigil", an old man working a very
intricate design out of glowing lines in midair, and "The Wizard," a
really eerie piece ... gone, both of 'em. Stolen the same night,
while under the incredibly tight security supplied by the damned
Justiciar...

Hmmmph. Gomer... that one got off an arrest, thanks to the Justiciar.
Heard that from one of his own Guard, too... Aram, his name was.
Nahum's own men think he's a bad apple. The government's at fault,
really.... they took your collection to the public, and don't get
good, noble people in positions of power! Hmmph. The Realm will be
sorry they ever replaced your Rose Warriors with these young Guard
pups!!

Ahh, the Warriors. The days you had! The adventure! The fun! The
reunion... When you noticed most of the fellows were here on the
castle (took you all of five minutes after the teleport!), you invited
'em all to a little get-together on ... gads, when was it? It'd be
good to get the boys together, try to show all the young mumps that it
was just politics that got you disbanded; it didn't happen because you
weren't good. Solid, honorable folk, all of them. Most, anyway, Soth
doesn't count. Now when was the gathering?

Hmmph, nevermind. Better get some stories, though!! Hmm, what's a
good one? Finally, being the youngest'll pay off... those old geezers
probably won't even remember half the things they've done!! Heh, heh,
heh... and then there were your days with the Horsemen... the "Four
Horsemen of the Apocalypse", you called yourselves at first, then the
"Apocalypse" dropped, then the four as more folks joined your band.
Ah, the adventure!! Before you settled down, that is. Heh.
Kalere'ge's got himself set up with this castle now... quite a step up
from being a wandering adventurer, especially with his nose for
trouble. Most of the quests the Horsemen went on, he came up with.
Kill the Vampire-Prime... you all did; the vampiric curse will die out
someday, hopefully soon. Nasty creatures, those... better off dead,
all of 'em. Or are they already dead? You've never been sure...
Still, a stake through the heart'll do it every time.... Works on
people, too. You found the Orb of the Magi, and brought new hope to
the people, and new uses for magic. Raven and the Cat... those two
were a cute couple. Too bad they're dead. And at least Arriz finally
got to be something important... Hierophant! Too bad the old boy's
gone senile. But those were the days! Ah, to be useful, and a hero!

You were a hero with the Rose Warriors, until you got disbanded. Oh,
some of you left early... Benjamin was up on treason charges, and got
a dishonorable discharge, even though he was cleared. Too much
suspicion, what with the border conflicts and all... he came up the
the Castle years ago, and no one's heard from him since. He's invited
to the little get-together, and you may hear what happened. You still
think he was framed; Benjy (remember not to call him that to his
face!) was always excruciatingly @i(honest) about everything. A
credit to the Warriors... maybe that was just the first step in
getting rid of the Warriors? Frame the best and brightest, and ask
the rest to leave? Soth. Now that one was a guilty devil...
treason, and they caught him at it. After the Scepter Uprising, when
the disbanding happened, he just vanished, no trace. And you tried to
find him.... poof. Nothing. Or the Fist... Nasty little Eastern
buggers. Fought like hell; nice against the edge of a sword. Thought
you'd seen one of them up on the Castle... You hope you're wrong;
you'd hate to have to challenge one up here. Kalere'ge might not like
it, and dead Easterners aren't too good for peace talks... Of course,
you could just kill them all... No. None of that, Abra'm... let the
young mumps of the Guard deal with the problem, if they're so
all-fired hot to do it. Not that they will, with Nahum, (the crook!),
in charge...

Almost time for a nap....

But first, when was that get-together? Three days from now.... Yes,
that sounds right. Have to get the boys together.... Soth's gone, so
that leaves Benjamin, Ephraim and Terhanna, Reuben's daughter. Nasty
end he came to, cut down saving his girl from robbers in her store...
now @i(that's) how to treat a child. Die for 'em, not nearly kill 'em
and drive 'em away.

Too bad you don't drink anymore; you're gonna need one if you start
thinking like that again. And once you've started, you might not be
able to stop. Better not to take the chance...! Anyway, war stories,
war stories... fighting off the Fist, battle, glory! The charge of
the White Brigade...? No, that was the Tualoahics... different war...
Hmmph. You're getting old, Abra'm. Nap-time, indeed! Hmmmph! Just
talk to the boys, see how they're doing. Find your paintings, no
matter what. Priceless, they are...! Talk to Lilith. You can't let
her go to her grave hating you... especially as you'll get to your
grave first, in all probability. Talk to Kalere'ge about old times
and artifacts; he'll probably let you have a few priceless trinkets.
Trinkets are nice that way. See the other Horsemen; DON'T go drinking
with Ephraim... damned Tualoahic, can drink the Goddess herself under
the table... besides, you don't drink...

That's quite enough for today. It's time for a nap....

@i(You are Nehemiah Abra'm, Curator of the Capitol City Art Gallery,
and an avid collector of art and artifacts. You have with you a few
picture postcards, some mithryl, your sword, dagger and armor, athough
you can't see why you'd need them, really. Maybe if the Fist should
rear it's ugly head...? You've got a few other knicknacks you picked
up for the trip, too; you can never tell when something might come in
handy. You have the ability to Read Languages, have Knowledge of
History (level 2) and can Speak Historical Jargon; you can also Seduce
the lakies if you've a mind to. You have Armor Use, and Weapons
Skills: +2 with Sword, +1 with Dagger, +3 florentine. You are a Good
Listener. In fact, you have only one weakness, besides your love for
your estranged daugter... you are subject to Alcholism, which will do
nasty things to your ability to defend yourself should the need arise.
Unfortunately you are also a Compulsive Drinker, so you must keep
yourself out of situations in which you might be offered a drink.
You've got a few paintings to find, a government to disrupt, and a few
reunions to organize.... get going, and good luck!)
