To do a search, first select the type of search you would like by holding down the left mouse button just to the right of "Search by:" near the lower left corner of the X TechInfo window and dragging to the appropriate search. Then click in the box just to the right of "Search by: (whatever)", type the keyword, source name, date or node id and press Return or Enter. TYPES OF SEARCHES: keyword Information providers give keywords for each node they provide. You might use this type of search when you want to get a brief list of documents or folders related to the given keyword. If the list you get back is not complete enough, try a full text search. full text Documents in TechInfo are indexed nightly to allow you to specify a word and get back a list of all documents containing that word. If the list you get back is too large to be manageable, try doing a keyword search. source Use this search if you know a source name and would like to see all nodes that belong to that source. Do not use the long source name. date This search will display all nodes that have changed since a given date. E.g. 3/4/93 will display all nodes changed since March 4, 1993. node id This search is really only useful for information providers. If you've received a suggestion about a node and are referred to it by a node id, for example, 2691, this search will show you the path from the main menu to the given node.
