Heartland (despite its name, it's based in midtown Manhattan) has become a leading mail-order music company because of its sophisticated use of TV commercials to reach music fans who seldom set foot in record stores. It sells 4 million to 5 million albums a year. EACH SPOT HAS OWN PHONE NUMBER: Heartland Music's two-minute TV ads are meticulously planned and designed by an in-house advertising agency.
