LAKERS RETIRE MAGIC'S NUMBER: The Los Angeles Lakers retired Magic Johnson's No. 32 jersey in an emotional ceremony at halftime of their game with the Celtics Sunday. Jerry West (44), Wilt Chamberlain (13), Elgin Baylor (22), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (33) - who are the only other Lakers to have their numbers retired - were on hand. COLBERT, JANZEN WIN TOURNEYS: Jim Colbert defeated George Archer on the fourth playoff hole to win the Senior PGA Tour GTE Suncoast Classic in Tampa. They tied at 13-under-par 200 after 54 holes. Also, Lee Janzen birdied the 16th hole, then held on for his first PGA Tour victory, one stroke ahead of Bill Britton at the Northern Telecom Open in Tucson, Ariz. Janzen is in his third Tour season. NIPPON LEADS SERIES: Japan's Nippon established its position of front-runner in the Challenger Selection Series of the America's Cup Sunday, beating France's Ville de Paris in the featured race of Round 2. Nippon won by 1 minute, 42 seconds, for its second win against the French. SAUTAR WINS MARATHON: Briton Tim Sautar won Vietnam's first major marathon Sunday after the USA's Bill Rodgers buckled under the heat in Ho Chi Minh City. Sautar was timed in 2 hours, 43 minutes, 26 seconds, for his first marathon victory. Luu Van Hung of Vietnam finished second.
