The Heat, 0-14 all-time against Chicago, have beaten every Eastern Conference team except the Bulls this season. In other NBA games: Cleveland 111, Washington 102; Atlanta 89, Detroit 77; Indiana 98, LA Lakers 85; Charlotte 117, San Antonio 112. COMPUTER PICKS INDIANA: Jeff Sagarin, USA TODAY's basketball computer whiz, is going against traditional wisdom in picking the winner of the NCAA men's basketball tournament - or at least his computer is. Sagarin's printout predicts it will be Indiana, not Duke taking the title. The computer played the tournament 640,000 times and Indiana won it 141,250 times. Kansas was next with 113,113, Duke third at 69,581. KNIGHT CANCELS BANQUET: Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight, whose team was upset Sunday by Purdue and was denied the Big Ten title, Monday canceled the school's annual basketball banquet April 9, breaking a 41-year tradition started by former coach Branch McCracken. The cancellation left the sponsoring Suburban Kiwanis Club scrambling to refund ticket money. WEISS UPSETS EDBERG: Defending champion Jim Courier's path to a repeat title became easier Monday when Robbie Weiss, ranked 289th in the world, upset Sweden's Edberg 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the Lipton International Players Championship. Courier advanced when Andres Gomez retired, trailing 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 4-3. Other winners: John McEnroe, No. 4 Pete Sampras, No. 3 Boris Becker and No. 6 Michael Chang. TOP WOMEN ADVANCE: Women's top seeds swept every set in their matches Monday at the Lipton International Players Championship. No. 1 Monica Seles won her 26th consecutive match. She was joined in the fourth round by No. 2 Steffi Graf, No. 3 Gabriela Sabatini, No. 4 Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and No. 5 Jennifer Capriati. NFL OWNERS UNDECIDED: NFL owners continued wrangling Monday over a proposed give back of more than $200 million in TV revenues, seeming to move away from plans to stretch the 1992 season over 18 weeks. At issue: Whether teams accept a base of $32.5 million a year for 1993-95, giving networks a two-year extension and flattening revenues, or stick by a four-year deal that ups revenue to $41 million in '93. RANGERS DOWN CANADIENS: In a showdown of the NHL's best, the New York Rangers stayed atop the league's standings with a 4-1 win against Montreal. The Rangers opened a four-point advantage on Montreal for home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs. In the only other game Monday, Hartford beat Calgary 4-3. LOPIANO NAMED HEAD OF WSF: Donna Lopiano, women's athletic director at Texas for the past 17 years, was named executive director of the Women's Sports Foundation Monday. "I'm tremendously excited about transferring my passion for women's athletics to the national level," said Lopiano. One of her top goals: A strategy for enforcing Title IX and the Amateur Sports Act of 1978. TIGERS BEAT CARDINALS: Detroit beat St. Louis 4-2 in spring training baseball Monday. Other games: Cincinnati (ss) 2, Pitt. 1; White Sox (ss) 8, Atlanta 4; L.A. 7, Boston (ss) 0; Cincinnati (ss) 9, K.C. (ss) 0; Montreal 3, Houston 1; Mets 2, K.C. (ss) 1; Texas 6, Minn. 5; Toronto 5, Phila. 0; Boston (ss) 7, White Sox (ss) 2; Cubs 7, Clev. 0; S.F. 7, Calif. 6; Sea. 7, S.D. 4; Oakland 5, Mil. 4; Balt. 5, Yankees 0. PLAYERS FIGHT FOR LIVES: California Angels pitcher Matt Keough had emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain Monday after being struck in the right temple by a foul ball. Keough was listed in critical condition in Scottsdale, Ariz. Also, hockey player Mike McNamara of Elmira College, who was hurt in a game Saturday, had not regained consciousness and was in serious condition in Plattsburgh, N.Y. CRAIG SIGNS WITH VIKINGS: Running back Roger Craig, who switched from the San Francisco 49ers to the Los Angeles Raiders last season as a Plan B free agent, is moving to Minnesota. Craig agreed to a contract with the Vikings on Monday that will pay him a little more than the $800,000 he made last year with the Raiders. ELLIOTT GAINS ON ALLISON: Bill Elliott's third consecutive Winston Cup victory Sunday in the Motorcraft 500 at Atlanta moved him into a tie for second place in season points standings. Daytona 500 winner Davey Allison leads with 695 points, 58 ahead of Elliott and Harry Gant. Completing the top five: Terry Labonte and Morgan Shepherd. 24-HOUR TELEPHONE INFORMATION: USA TODAY Sports Hot Line. 95 cents a minute. 1-900-555-5555. Sports Editor: Jason P. Smith.
