A wet pattern is on tap from the Pacific Northwest to central California. Heavy snow is expected in the northern Sierra Nevadas. The northern Plains should be cool and cloudy. Snow and mixed precipitation are forecast for the upper Midwest, northern Great Lakes and northern New England. SHOWERS MOVE THROUGH THE EAST: A strong storm system will bring rain to parts of the middle Mississippi Valley and the mid-Atlantic states Tuesday. A cold front will produce showers and thunderstorms along the East Coast from Virginia to northern Florida. Mild, drier air will sweep in behind the storms as the system leaves the Southeast Tuesday night. The Southwest should have some of the nicest weather in the nation.
