10 COOL THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH NETDOPPLER
NetDoppler is a powerful, Windows-based utility that performs route
discovery, latency tests, and throughput tests to remote hosts.
NetDoppler builds a tree of IP nodes representing the packet path
and is ready to perform serious testing and baselining from the
moment you install it. There's no need for specialized software such
as SNMP or remote monitoring agents!

To learn more about this unique tool and its capabilities, please
visit http://www.wildpackets.com and check out the "10 Cool Things
you can do with NetDoppler" link from our home page.

NetDoppler is available for purchase through the WildPackets'
Web Store, from sales@wildpackets.com or through our W.I.N. Channel
Partners. The price for the utility is $249 SRP USD.

PROTECT YOUR PACKET TRACES WITH PACKETSCRUBBER(TM)
PacketScrubber is a new utility that removes sensitive or confidential
data from frames within your protocol analyzer's saved trace files.
Selected data is changed to "null data" (all zeros) allowing you to send
your trace files outside of your organization for analysis or
troubleshooting purposes.

PacketScrubber contains SmartScrub(tm) technology, allowing you to scrub
frames on a selective basis. SmartScrub has the ability to scrub layer by
layer and protocol by protocol. If you want to scrub the entire DLC frame,
leaving no network layer or higher layer information at all, SmartScrub
affords you that capability. If you want to only scrub your file
transfers, then SmartScrub allows you to only change FTP packets.

For IP packets, you also have the option of translating your IP addresses
to the default private class address range (as recommended by RFC 1918) or
any address of your choosing.

PacketScrubber is now available for purchase through the WildPackets'
site. To order, please visit the product pages at http://www.wildpackets.com.
The price for the utility is $99 USD, regularly $169 SRP.

SECTION 5: TRAINING
===========================================
OPTIMIZED ENGINEERING TO BE ACQUIRED BY WILDPACKETS!
WildPackets has done it again. For the second time in six months,
we have decided to acquire a long-standing strategic partner as a
means of building and solidifying our business.

Earlier this week, we announced that we will acquire our training
partner, Optimized Engineering Corporation (OEC). Along with the
announcement of the acquisition, we are rolling out an expanded
professional services program encompassing public, on-site, and
remote packet and network analysis training, enhanced, multi-tiered
levels of product support, and broadened network consulting options.

OEC, a protocol analysis training and consulting services company based
in Mountain View, CA, was founded in 1994. OEC has been the prime developer
of WildPackets' courseware and created the Technology, Engineering and
Networking (T.E.N.) remote education workshop series. OEC staff has over 35
years of collective experience in protocol and network analysis instruction
and consulting, and is well positioned for understanding industry dynamics
and technology positioning.

We believe this to be a natural evolution of our partnership with OEC. The
merging of our well-matched organizations will allow us to increase our
presence in the technical instruction, consulting and network support
services arena significantly.

===========================================
SECTION 8. TECHNICAL SUPPORT
===========================================
TECHNICAL SUPPORT Q&A
Q. How do I use EtherPeek to find utilization on all segments
    of a switched backbone?

A. Since the inherent design of a switched network is to segregate
traffic to individual segments, any analysis tools will require
that the individual segments be monitored separately. This can
easily be accomplished using the standard switch feature called,
"Port Mirroring", or "Port Spanning". This assumes that you have
a managed switch. You attach EtherPeek to, let's say, Port #22
on the switch. Then you log in to the switch console and issue
the appropriate command to "Mirror the backbone segment port to
Port #22". This causes a copy of all frames in and out of the
mirrored backbone port to be sent to EtherPeek. At that point
you can simply read the utilization statistics directly from
the Statistics summary screen. If you can't mirror on your switch
then you could attach a mini-hub between the switch and a device
and then attach EtherPeek to the mini-hub. Now, let's assume that
your "switched backbone" consists of a number of devices all
attached to a central switch (as opposed to a switch that is
simply *part* of a backbone). We might call this a "collapsed
backbone". In this case there might be too many devices to easily
monitor them one by one. I usually look to see if the switch itself
will report basic utilization statistics for me in this case.
Otherwise, the nature of a switched network makes it challenging to
get overall statistics - and this is true with all protocol analysis
    tools and utilities.

Q. We use a proprietary IP (TCP) protocol. Within the first 4 bytes of the
data portion of a TCP packet, we identify the message type. This type is
the information I'm interested in seeing in EtherPeek's main
capture screen.
The default info given is SA, DA, time stamp etc... somewhat
modifiable with
View->View Options. I would like to extract the first 4 bytes from the data
portion and display it in the capture screen so I don't have to drill down
to see this info. Is this possible?

A. It is possible with a plug-in. You can write your own plug-in and specify
that the requested data appear in the Plug-in Info column.

As you may know, the plug-in SDK is in the Documents folder on your
EtherPeek CD, or, if you downloaded via the web, in the Documents folder
where you unzipped the downloaded file. If your file starts out with
'Where are the SDKs?', you can download them from our FTP site at:
