SSL The Secure Sockets Layer: How it works and how to configure Apache to properly use it SSL is the security mechanism of the World Wide Web. It provides for Confidentiality, Integrity and Authentication of Web content. At MIT we also use it ability to authenticate clients via MIT Client Certificates. Many secure web sites are sprouting up at MIT that take advantage of this technology, yet many of them are not optimally configured. This lunchtime talk will discuss how SSL works and will go into a step by step discussion of how to properly configure an Apache based webserver for SSL and the acceptance of MIT certificates.
